Out My Window
(A view from the chair)

My window looks to the north at a large field of rotating crops.  The last one was cotton and I can only guess what this beautiful green field has in store for me.  I am sure the farmer appreciated all the rain his fields received this year.  I can see the cars drive back and forth on the main road.  I see planes overhead fly by and leave in their wake the trails of spray floating like clouds.  I watch black birds search for food and the doves sit together on the fence.  I have my own little garden of weeds, which sprouted up, thanks to the rain.  I watch them grow and fondly enjoy them swaying in the breeze.

I have seen a coyote stroll by, just outside the fence.  I've marveled at the precision of the two tractors as they gather their crop, side by side.  It was like a well-orchestrated ballet.

I have learned to feel myself outside that fence, smelling the fresh aroma of the soil, feeling the wind upon my face and touching the field with my bare feet.  I picture myself on those planes, going somewhere I've never been before.  I feel myself in the cars driving home after a long day.  I hear the music on my CD player and feel the gentle hypnotic sway of tires on pavement.  I listen to the birds sing their messages of triumph and defeat.  I quiet as the coyote walks back to her den for the night.

I know that someday…someday soon, I will really be able to do all these things again.  But, for now, I will live in my senses and creative mind, because it is all I have and it makes me feel good.  Some may say that I am being silly, and it may be so.  All that really matters is I have found a way to survive this ordeal.  The sunset I now see is real, beautiful and mine for the taking.  Why not enjoy what we can?  It works for me – it just might work for you.

"...listen to the birds sing their messages of triumph and defeat..."that is one of the best expressions of simplicity i've heard, and i love it. that comes from within, and your fingers only bring it out. i know this story well, i live it every day... thanks for a beautiful read, best regards, sue thom

Good Afternoon Sue, Thank you for "feeling" my story. What a wonderful compliment to know that you and I connected in a way that was meant to be. Yes, from my heart to yours. Best of everything to you my friend. Blessings, Star
